Science

Most of our science comes from a range of books with experiments to do at home:

Crisp Packet Fireworks

Usborne Big Book of Science

Usborne Pocket Scientist books

Local Resources:

At Bristol – this is a fantastic hands-on science centre in Bristol.  There is easy access to it from Gloucester, and we can easily spend a whole day there! It is something for all ages, and has new features added all the time.  They also now do regular ‘Toddler Takeover Days’ which are designed for under 5’s with extra craft activities etc. I have organised an educational trip there which was a bit of a failure, as the workshops were a bit too schooly! We visit regularly, and there is also a discount membership for home educators.

Cheltenham Science Festival – This year’s festival has just been and gone and we spent nearly a day there just exploring the Discovery Zone and BBC and Waterstones’ tents, and didn’t even book any workshops as we have done in previous years.  Home Educators have access to the ‘Book It for schools‘ workshops at the festival, which cost about £4 per person. Excellent value, can thoroughly recommend.
