I think it started as a recommendation on a HE list somewhere, so I took a peek, downloaded it, and the kids have been playing on it ever since. Kidzui is a free internet browser, but is restricted to sites that have been verified by other parents. So for example, I can save the Cbeebies home page as a favourite so the kids can find it easily, but if they try and click on a link outside of cbeebies then it won’t click through, and it explains that the page is blocked.
I have been looking for something like this, and had tried to design a very, very basic page that they could use to access their favourite sites from, but this is sooo much better, and all done for me 🙂
Its downsides are that it is quite american-biased in its main content, but the kids seem oblivious, and it is very easy to save your own favourite sites onto their own home page. You can also set-up parent controls, so if they try and close the kidzui browser down, they have to input a password, and can’t escape out onto the freedom of your laptop/computer!
Download and have a play with it, it’s definitely a hit in our house.
